Earlier this year, pianist Tatiana Dorokhova wowed the crowd in Round III of the Gurwitz International Piano Competition with her performance of San Antonio composer Aaron Prado's "El Colibrí y la Cempasúchil."
"It was the most challenging piece during the competition," Dorokhova said, because of the element of improvisation required.
Dorokhova's jazzy cadenza helped her win the Audience Favorite award at the competition.
She'll reprise the performance in San Antonio this Sunday night, Oct. 13 at 7:00, performing a free concert at San Fernando Cathedral for Musical Bridges Around the World.
The program also includes music by Mili Balakirev and Modest Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition," which Dorokhova said "shows different facets of the human soul."
