Adam Salmon, PhD, studies aging in marmosets. He and his team recently concluded that an immunosuppressant called rapamycin extends the lifespan of marmosets. This has significant implications for the study of aging in humans.

A San Antonio collaborative is developing treatments for antibiotic-resistant infections using viruses known as phages. The effort is urgent as infections that don't respond to antibiotics are projected to kill 39 million people by 2050.

The Amazon rainforest is known as the “lungs of planet Earth,” but what happens when deforestation in Brazil continues? One journalist tried to alert the world to this coming crisis. Dom Phillips was writing the book “How to Save The Amazon” when he was murdered. His colleagues refused to let Phillips' work die—and they completed his book.

How should San Antonio regulate data center growth?
The number of data centers in the San Antonio area continues to grow. And District 10 Councilmember Marc Whyte is presenting a nuanced position on the growth as an opportunity for the city’s economy — boosting revenue for CPS Energy and providing a projected $50 million dollars for the city’s general fund. Whyte is calling for managing data center growth to protect the region's water and neighborhoods.

Medicaid cuts will hit Texas especially hard
President Trump and the Republican controlled congress are planning deep cuts to Medicaid to help cover the cost of $4.5 billion in tax breaks. This could knock off over 8 million people from Medicaid and reduce services for millions more. Texas rural hospitals will be especially hit hard along with Texas new mothers and children.
