San Antonio Area Under Another Severe Thunderstorm Warning Thursday Night

The National Weather Service has given multiple severe thunderstorm warnings this afternoon to counties and towns north of San Antonio, including Comfort, Kerrville, Bandera and Fredericksburg.

 

The NWS also issued a servere thunderstorm watch for Bexar County until 10 p.m. Thursday night.

Thursday, May 28

 

8:25 p.m.

 

The NWS has canceled the severe thunderstorm watch across South Central Texas. The remainder of the night should be partly to mostly cloudy, with a few residual showers across southern and western areas exiting to the south.

 

5:50 p.m.

 

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued specifically for Bexar County and the City of San Antonio. According to the NWS, mainly the north side will be affected, with up to quarter-size hail and 60-mph winds.

 

5:30 p.m.

 

The NWS reported that strong storms will be moving into San Antonio with possible wind gusts to 50 mph, lightning and potentially some small hail. Farther east, storms will be crossing Highway 90.

 

4:50 p.m.

 

The main hazards for tonight's storm are hail (which may be up to 2 inches in diameter) and 70+ mph winds.

 

Tonight's weather follows a large thunderstorm from last night, which prodcued large hail and heavy winds.

 

Wednesday, May 27

Last night, CPS Energy reported 285 power outages affecting 25,000 customers in the immediate wake of the storm.

 

One weather spotter reported quarter-sized hail covered the ground in the Kerrville area.

 

Some of the highest thunderstorm winds were recorded around Fredericksburg at 80 miles an hour.
