Applicants For San Antonio City Manager Position Released

San Antonio has released a list of 31 applicants who are applying to be the next city manager.

The applicants include each of City Manager Sheryl Sculley’s deputy and assistant city managers, as well as applicants from across the U.S. and Ontario, Canada.

The applicant pool contains six people currently employed by the city: Deputy City Managers Erik Walsh and Peter Zanoni and assistant city managers Carlos Contreras, Lori Houston, Rod Sanchez, and Maria Villagomez.

Other local applicants include Kelley Kuenstler the current city manager for Leon Valley, a suburb of San Antonio and Celeste Brown, a district court judge for Bexar County. Brown recently lost a re-election campaign in November.

Michael Idrogo, a frequent candidate for mayor of San Antonio, and Nazarite Perez, a frequent speaker at the council’s citizens to be heard sessions are listed.

From Texas, city managers from Pearsall and Alice — Charles Jackson and Andy Joslin, respectively — have applied. Deputy and assistant city managers from Dallas, Corpus Christi, and Arlington are also seeking the top job.

The list includes high ranking city officials from New York City, Colorado, Pennsylvania,  Georgia, and other states as well as a Special Warfare Development Manager employed by the U.S. Air Force.

The vacancy of the city manager position was announced after Sculley announced her retirement in November.
