The Source: What Was Rick Perry's Legacy?

rickperry.org

As the third Tuesday of January approaches--the day Governor-Elect Greg Abbott takes the oath of office--what will Texans remember about Gov. Rick Perry?

His unsuccessful bid for the GOP nomination in 2012's presidential race left him with his "Oops" moment.

The recent indictment on abuse of power charges and the recent disclosure of fast and loose monitoring at the Texas Enterprise Fund, all coming at the end of his 14-year tenure as Governor.

Our guests think that despite these eleventh hour fumbles, Perry's political acumen allowed him to reshape the Governor's office. Through his longer lengthy stay in the office he has appointed every state committee and board person. Through his aggressive use of his veto power he has turned what used to be a rubber stamp into a powerful pen and flipped the dynamic between Governor and Legislature.

What will you remember about Gov. Rick Perry?

Guests:

  • Cal Jillson, professor of political science at Southern Methodist University
  • Ross Ramsey, co-founder and executive editor of the TexasTribune.org
