The Humana Rock 'n' Roll San Antonio Marathon is coming up this weekend. And more than 20,000 runners from 23 countries and all 50 states are expected to participate in the 8th annual marathon and half-marathon on Sunday.
Here's 6 things to know:
1. The marathon begins and ends at the Alamodome downtown. You can find a route map here and information about road closures here.
2. That means parking could be tricky but organizers advise people to leave early and have provided this parking map. You can also take VIA, although several routes have been changed to accommodate the marathon. You can check with VIA here.
3. Third Eye Blind is the headlining band for the post-race concert with numerous local bands playing along the course.
4. As part of the marathon, a Health & Fitness Expo will be held from noon to 7 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Henry B Gonzalez Convention Center.
5. Children in grades K-7 can also participate over race weekend at the non-timed, non-competitive SUBWAY KiDS ROCK San Antonio powered by San Antonio Sports on Saturday, Dec. 5.
6. According to event organizers, charity participants have raised more than $310 million for a variety of worthy causes and nonprofit organizations over the event's 17-year history.
