San Antonio VIA Bus Driver Tests Positive For COVID-19

Apr 7, 2020

A VIA bus driver tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday, according to an internal letter sent to VIA employees.

VIA reports the driver last worked on March 31.

In the letter, VIA President and CEO Jeffrey Arndt wrote:

“Our thoughts are with our team member and their family,” he wrote. “We will continue to communicate with them as they recover and do what we can to support them during this time.”

He said employees who may have come into contact with the driver should self monitor for signs of the virus.

If employees do develop symptoms, they should contact their supervisor and their doctor.

Arndt reminded employees the transit system has taken several steps to keep employees safe, including the issuance of masks, gloves, hand sanitizer and disposable wipes.

VIA previously announced it removed seats from buses to increase social distancing and continues a fare relief program to limit contact between drivers and riders.
