Monday, June 1
10:00 p.m. – 37 known cases of COVID-19 in Starr County
On Monday evening, Starr County officials confirmed 17 active cases of COVID-19 in the community plus 20 recoveries.
Recent reports include a family member of a previously reported case and two women who tested positive at mobile testing site for screening COVID-19 infections.
8:30 p.m. – A dozen new cases reported in Cameron County
Cameron County Public Health confirmed 12 new cases of COVID-19 and seven recoveries on Monday evening.
All of the new positive reports are from Brownsville. The youngest case is a 5-year-old female linked to a previous case and the oldest is a 73-year-old male who likely contracted the disease from the community. Five of the 12 new reports are determined to be cases of community transmission. The other seven are linked to previous cases.
There are now 776 known cases of COVID-19 in Cameron County. About 76 percent, or 566 individuals, have already recovered according to county data.
8:00 p.m. – 60-year-old McAllen woman is Hidalgo County's latest death
After almost three weeks of no fatalities, Hidalgo County officials confirmed that a 60-year-old woman from McAllen with "a history of medical complications" is the eventh COVID-19 related death in the county.
Nine new cases were reported on Monday, taking the number of active cases to 218. The number of recoveries is now at 355 after nine individuals were recently "released from isolation."
The number of hospitalizations in the county has increased to 26 compared to the 20 patients reported yesterday. There are now six new patients receiving treatment for COVID-19 in Hidalgo County hospitals, including three existing patients who remain in intensive care.
5:00 p.m. – 19 cases confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Willacy County
The Texas Department of State Health Services Region 11 confirmed 19 known cases of the novel coronavirus in Willacy County on Monday.
The latest case, a female in her 50s, is determined to be a case of community transmission. Two new cases linked to previous infections – a male in his 40s and a female in her 30s – were recently confirmed as well.
An employee of Willacy County's jail division has tested positive and three others are in quarantine after presenting symptoms, according to The Monitor.
12 p.m. – Over 1,300 confirmed cases, 47 deaths connected to COVID-19 in the Valley
As of Monday morning, the four Valley-area counties have reported the following counts:
- 575 cases, 10 deaths in Hidalgo County
- 764 cases, 36 deaths in Cameron County
- 16 cases, 1 death in Willacy County
- 35 cases in Starr County
