New Free COVID-19 Testing Centers Open In San Antonio

Apr 23, 2020

More drive-thru COVID-19 testing locations have opened throughout the area. City officials say the new test sites provide more accessible testing in underserved and minority communities.

“These new COVID-19 test sites will provide accessible testing at no charge to areas of our community that have experienced historic access to care barriers and provider-deserts,” said San Antonio Metro Health Director Dawn Emerick in a statement. “If you are experiencing symptoms, please schedule a test. Symptoms such as a dry cough and fever are indicators that you might be infected. Knowing your COVID-19 status will protect the health of others around you.”

Some testing sites will charge a fee, and some are free. Review this list to find the COVID-19 testing locations throughout the city and county, or read on below.

Pre-Approved COVID-19 Testing at Freeman Coliseum

An appointment is required. Schedule a free test at sanantonio.gov/covid19 or call 210-233-5970 to register and schedule an appointment.

Texas MedClinic Drive-Thru Test Site

The Texas MedClinic drive-thru COVID-19 testing location opened on Thursday at 2530 SW Military Drive. The location operates seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This drive-thru location is a partnership with the South Texas Regional Advisory Council (STRAC), which operates the Freeman Coliseum testing center.

Similar to the process at Freeman Coliseum, patients call 210-233-5970 between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to be screened. If a COVID-19 test is needed, the screener will schedule the test at either Freeman Coliseum or Texas MedClinic. The COVID-19 test is free and is intended to serve those who do not have health insurance.

Texas MedClinic – In-Office Visit

Texas MedClinic does not currently require an appointment but recommends that patients check in online or in person at a kiosk. After checking in, patients will be asked to wait in their vehicles to be seen for your test, unless they are not medically stable.
