Dozens of people gathered in Travis Park on Wednesday evening to celebrate the life of Garrett Foster, a Black Lives Matter activist who was killed in Austin in late July.

President Donald Trump met with the family of slain Army Specialist Vanessa Guillen at the White House on Thursday. They shared their grief and expressed their hopes that the military system that failed their daughter and other women will be improved.

A newly formed organization based out of San Antonio and Houston is taking on the United States military and demanding changes they say will keep soldiers and potential recruits safe. They took their fight to Washington, D.C. this week.

Update: The man killed during Saturday night's deadly shooting has been identified as Garrett Foster. His mother Sheila Foster told Good Morning America that her son had been attending the protests with his fiancé Whitney Mitchell. 

Police are investigating a homicide after a person was shot dead during a protest Saturday night in Austin.

An Army veteran, a local organization, and the Sanchez Ice House teamed up to create a mural in honor of two Army soldiers whose remains have recently been found near Fort Hood. Officials say Specialist Vanessa Guillen was brutally killed at the base and the military suspects foul play in the unrelated death of Gregory Morales.

Both of their portraits are now painted on a wall of the Sanchez Ice House #2, a bar frequented by military veterans and located less than two miles from Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio.

Members of the NoMas Movement brought together hundreds of people in San Antonio on Saturday to honor slain Fort Hood soldier Vanessa Guillen.

Just blocks away from where demonstrators said they marched in protest against discrimination and violence in policing in recent weeks, a smaller group of about a dozen people gathered at Municipal Plaza on Saturday to express their support for police.

Hundreds of people participated in a unique rally for slain Army soldier Vanessa Guillen on Saturday. A convoy of automobiles drove from Gustafson Stadium to Cafe Azteca, where a memorial to the Fort Hood specialist was prepared.
