Through Saturday, September 3, 2017, South Texas Blood & Tissue Center donor rooms in San Antonio and New Braunfels will be staying open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Life-saving blood given by South Texas donors in San Antonio was shipped to the Coastal Bend on August 29, 2017.

The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center sent 300 units of blood in what is expected to be the first wave of blood shipments to storm-ravaged southeast Texas.

Since the hurricane made landfall on Saturday, 1,600 donors responded to pleas for help.

On Monday alone, 700 people donated blood in South Texas. That's 300 more than on a usual Monday.
