A bus of seniors from First Baptist Church in New Braunfels was involved in a fatal head-on collision in Uvalde County Wednesday afternoon.

The death toll has risen to 13 with two others injured following a church van crash in Southwest Texas.  The choir group was on its way home from a three-day retreat.

The van crashed head-on with a pickup truck on U.S. 83, about 75 miles
west of San Antonio Wednesday afternoon.  The people killed in the van
were members of the First Baptist Church in New Braunfels.

The Department of Public Safety is reconstructing the crash site and will
interview the driver of the pickup.

Church Pastor Brad McLean met with family members Wednesday evening to
help them deal with the tragedy.  And the church will have counselors on
site on Thursday.

In a statement, Texas Governor Greg Abbott said he and his wife, Cecilia,
extend their deepest condolences to the victims and the families of those
involved in the tragic event.

Traffic was being re-routed thru State Highway 127 in Concan and FM 1050 by
Garner State Park. Highway 83 North will remain closed for several hours.
