San Antonio dyes the river green each year for St. Patrick's Day.

St. Patrick’s Day is this Friday and there will be plenty of opportunity to get in the Irish spirit on

the River Walk and at La Villita this weekend.

The Harp and Shamrock Society, Paseo del Rio Association, and City of San Antonio are co-sponsoring the free events.

The river will be dyed green and there will bands playing at the Arneson River Theatre both Friday and Saturday.

“And we’ll also have music as well as costume characters and so forth that are riding in the parade itself, which is only on Saturday, March 18,” said Paula Schechter, director of marketing and public relations for the Paseo del Rio Association. The parade begins at 4 p.m., and is visible from anywhere downtown on the River Walk.

In La Villita there will be Irish and Texan beer and food, arts and crafts and games as well as a “Passport to Ireland” interactive exhibit which offers genealogy research, history of early Irish Texans and much more.
