Mayor Ivy Taylor has declared July 21, Tim Duncan Day, and San Antonio businesses and organizations have jumped aboard.
Teka Molino served 21-cent breakfast tacos. At Grouchy Mama’s Food Truck, today’s feature BBQ sandwich was “The Timmy.” Animal Care Services offered the first 21 dog adoptions at $21. Bethany Colonnese is the Live Release Manager. "We just thought it would be a fun way to commemorate his service to the city, his love of the city. We know he’s a pet lover at the same time, and it’s just a great way to get the word out about the great animals that we have down here as well," Colonnese says. Duncan spent his entire 19-year career with the San Antonio Spurs and his jersey number '21' is a popular fixture in the community. He announced his retirement earlier this month. And several businesses have special Tim Duncan messages displayed on their marquees including the Majestic Theatre. Fans are also having fun thanking Tim Duncan and celebrating the day on social media. Here's a selection from Facebook and Twitter:
It's been an honor. Break out the Silver & Black.
