Deadline Extended For Property Tax Payments

The deadline for property tax payments has been extended at all four offices of the Tax Assesor to Monday, Feb. 1, at 6:30 p.m. Albert Uresti, the Bexar County Tax Assessor-Collector, announced the change Wednesday.

"Our goal is to keep families in their homes. A large part of this goal is helping our citizens learn how they can avoid additional charges on their tax bill by paying their taxes on time," Uresti said in a press release.

Taxpayers will be able to drop off their bill at the curb to facilitate convenient payment, as curbside payment drop-off will be available both Friday and Monday, starting at 8a.m. at the downtown office and 2p.m. at the SouthSide, NorthEast, and NorthWest locations.  You can find those locations here.

By state law, individual taxpayers who do not have their accounts settled by Feb. 1 will be charged a 7percent fee for penalties and interest, which continues monthly until the bill is paid in full. An additional 15-20 percent attorney collection fee is added to unpaid business personal property accounts on April 2 and to other unpaid real property accounts on July 1.

Senior citizens, disabled citizens, and disabled veterans can still enroll in the county’s Four Quarter Payment Plan until Feb. 29, which will allow them to pay their taxes in four installments instead of one. Payments can also be made by credit card with a 2.10 percent fee or by check at no additional charge at bexar.org/tax.

Taxpayers with additional questions are encouraged to call the Tax Assessor's office at (210) 335-2251 or visit bexar.org/tax.
