Congressman Steve Stockman, one of the leading candidates in 2014 running for the U.S. Senate seat held by Sen. John Cornyn, is being questioned by the Federal Election Commission. The commission has asked to clarify two sets of alleged excessive donations.
Stockman received the donations following a bill he introduced in March that would give gaming rights to the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe.
In a letter sent to the political action committee (PAC) known as The Friends of Steve Stockman, the FEC is requesting the group clarify two sets of contributions from MarneyBilodeau, who is from Arizona, and two donations from the PAC known as United Auburn Indian Commission of Auburn Rancheria, both sets were at least $2,500.
The FEC’s letter is a first stage in determining if there needs to be a further investigation -- at this stage they are asking the Friends of Steve Stockman to clarify the two sets of donations. It also allows the PAC to rededicate the donations if they have written permission from the contributors.
The Friends of Steve Stockman have the next 60 days to clarify the intent of the donations.
