The benchmarks of San Antonio’s program to transform the city are changing, or at least continuing to evolve.
SA2020’s report card was released in June, detailing the progress of 65 metrics in eleven visionary areas, including but not limited to health and well-being, education, and teen pregnancy.
The report showed that San Antonio is making improvements in graduation rates, that it had met or exceeded a reduction in the rate of teen pregnancies, but that San Antonio still struggled in civic engagement when it came time to cast ballots.
Chief Engagement Officer Molly Cox said 250 people got together following that report and concluded the standards outlined may not be getting the city closer to its goals by the year 2020.
"Some of the indicators that we originally decided on in our original visioning process with the community at large...ultimately weren't going to get us to the outcome where we needed to be, and maybe we needed to measure something more specific,” Cox said.
For that reason, SA2020 is reaching out to residents for their opinion again. Cox and those close to the program want to know if there are areas to be focused on that aren’t included in the metrics or if the report card is taking into account another area that should be discarded from the list of goals.
"Where we're going [to be] in the year 2020 is contingent completely upon whether or not we as a community embrace the goals that we set for ourselves and actually move the needle that way,” said Cox.
Public input is being sought until July 31, both online and on the phone, at 704-1025.
Leaders are also hosing another open house at the Central Library on Thursday from 5:30-7:00 to explain the revisions.
A second report card may be out in the fall.
