Fireworks sales began Monday for the July 4 holiday, and although fire officials would rather see people play it safe and go see a professional pyrotechnics show, they realize some people enjoy lighting their own -- especially in San Antonio.

Fireworks are illegal inside the city limits, but Bexar County has no restrictions on their use this year, which means enthusiastic fireworks displays like this one from New Year's 2011 might be a little more common.

The city's official fireworks show, which is sponsored by the San Antonio Parks Foundation, is at Woodlawn Lake Park and is free to attend. The Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce is hosting it's second annual Stars and Stripes over San Antonio downtown at Hemisfair Park.
This year there is a $2 admission charge for the chamber event, but active-duty military personnel get in free.
Sea World is also having a July 4 fireworks display, as is Fiesta Texas, who is going to one-up everyone else and have two two nights of fireworks on both the fourth and fifth.
