The Texas Mental Health Creative Arts Contest 2026 invites Texans of all ages to reflect on their mental health and share what it means to them through creative expression.

Hosted by the Texas Institute for Excellence in Mental Health, this statewide contest is open to all Texas residents—from elementary students to adults. Participants are invited to respond to the theme “What Does Mental Health Mean to You?” through traditional art, digital art, photography, or writing.

Mental health is shaped by personal experiences, culture, and community. By encouraging creative reflection, the contest creates space for people to tell their stories, explore emotional well-being, and contribute to broader conversations about mental health across Texas. Submissions may address topics such as stress, healing, resilience, relationships, or everyday moments that influence mental well-being.

Selected works may be featured in virtual and in-person galleries, offering opportunities for learning, connection, and public dialogue.

Eligibility: Open to all Texas residents, youth and adults

Celebrate the spring season by joining us for a plant swap! Bring plants, cuttings, seedlings, seeds, or usable pots/planters that you would like to share with other plant enthusiasts. Drop by the library anytime from 10:00am-11:30am on Saturday, March 14th to exchange your plant items. Please ensure that the plant items you bring are pest-free and labeled if possible.

Join us for a FREE Chess Tournament! This will be a US Chess Federation rated tournament, meaning all participants must be registered USCF members. Purchase youth memberships for $24/year at the USCF website. Limited scholarships may be available if needed, please contact ben@mfplibrary.com for more information.
Please register each participant online and include their USCF membership number in the appropriate field.

-Depending on the number of registrants, players will either all play together or be split into Beginner and Advanced groups.

The Alamo Reading Rainbro Circle is San Antonio’s premier LGBTQIA+ book club hosted in partnership with Pride Center-San Antonio where members meet monthly to discuss the gay and bi male narratives that reflect our lives. A pillar of the Second Saturday ArtWalk, this monthly outdoor pop up art market hosts local artists, makers, & vendors, often featuring a different school, start-up, or non-profit. So come out to support your local creatives, enjoy some tunes, and grab a bite to eat at our guest food truck! The ArtWalk includes galleries inside 1906, plus those around the corner on Lone Star Blvd, as well as across the tracks on LaChapelle, and along S. Flores, not to mention other pop up markets!
