Bach's Easter Oratorio
Bach's Easter Oratorio
Bach’s majestic Easter Oratorio was performed on Easter in 1725 in Leipzig at both the Nikolaikirche and the Thomaskierke. The choral masterwork was conceived at the height of Bach’s creative powers as a sacred vocal composer, between his dramatic St. John Passion (1724) and his monumental composition, St. Matthew Passion (1727).
All three of them represent a departure from his cantatas which were much shorter in length. The concert features the choir of Musica Sacra, directed by Owen Duggan, and members of the San Antonio Philharmonic and is free and open to persons of all faiths.
Recommended donation of $20.
