The Happy Foundation is named after Arthur P. "Happy" Veltman, a San Antonio business entrepreneur and developer who died of AIDS in 1988. Veltman was instrumental in the commercial development of the San Antonio River Walk, Blue Star Arts Complex, and the preservation of several historic structures in downtown San Antonio. Happy Foundation's 400 square foot room, housed in the back of one of Texas’ largest gay nightclubs--the Bonham Exchange, is filled with boxes, file cabinets and mountains of papers comprised of materials chronicling local, regional, and national LGBTQ+ history.
