Mexican American Rondalla with Robert Ojeda

Student participants will create a vocal music ensemble and learn 5 to 10 songs from the 18th century. Songs are selected from the Charles Lummis Collection at the Southwest Museum. Students will present a recital at the end of the course.

Course Fee $30

The course fee is payable at the first class, June 4, 2025, cash or check only.

About Robert Ojeda, M.A., M.Ed.
Robert Ojeda, respected musician, educator, and historian, is a 2024 grantee of the City of San Antonio’s Department of Arts & Culture Individual Artist Grant. Ojeda is dedicated to preserving the history of Mexican American music through performance and community-based education. Ojeda is a recipient of several grants and awards over his career such as, Austin Humanities Grant, Cesar Chavez "Si Se Puede" Award, 2019 Raza Award, Austin Tejano Legends Award, and is an original member of El Teatro Campesino. Ojeda is also a contributing author to "Mexican and Chicano Music: Chicano music: a perspective; Lalo Guerrero: the father of Chicano music", 2nd Ed., published by McGraw-Hill, and author of "La Rondalla Mexicana" published by San Diego state University Aztec Bookstore.

Classes will take place at the International Folk Culture Center (IFCC) in the MARC building
