Trinity University Press and Texas Public Radio present The Maverick Book Club; a discussion focused on Native Texan: Stories from Deep in the Heart. Bass Reeves, Barbette, and Ana María Calvillo are just some of the known and unknown legends that make Texas unique. Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Joe Holley is widely loved for his popular “Native Texan” column, which appears in the Houston Chronicle.
In thirty stories curated from the archives, Holley introduces readers to his favorite people and places across the state from Brazos to Waco, including the Black Seminole tradition, the creator of Conan the Barbarian, a brush with Bonnie and Clyde, the moon towers of Austin, and more. In conversation with journalist Edward R. Murrow Award-winning radio journalist David Martin Davies.
