Earth Day at the Briscoe: Shadowbox Insect Art with La Chicharra

Earth Day at the Briscoe: Shadowbox Insect Art with La Chicharra

Celebrate Earth Day at the Briscoe and learn how nature inspires art – and how art can teach us to respect nature. Connie Zamorano of San Antonio’s La Chicharra will delve into the fascinating world of insect artistry and how entomology – the study of bugs – inspires her creature creations. Chicharras, or cicadas, are known for their dramatic life cycles and Zamorano frequently uses them in her art.  Sharing how she embarks on foraging adventures, harvesting from her own garden and collecting specimens ethically, Zamarano invites everyone to discover the creative possibilities of often-overlooked natural materials.

Guests can take home their own native wildflower seed starter pack so they can create their own garden to observe and learn from. Pre-registration is recommended for this free program.
