Cinema Tuesdays: Say Amen, Somebody Santikos Entertainment
First released in 1982, this documentary portrays the history and importance of gospel music as told through the lives of its singers. Featured are Thomas A. Dorsey, considered the “Father of Gospel Music,” “Mother” Willie Mae Ford --- who trained gospel singers for decades, as well as gospel musicians and choirs, providing a look at the faith-rooted, deeply emotional, and joyous music entwined in African American culture. Unseen in cinemas for decades, “Say Amen, Somebody” has been gorgeously restored to 4K by Milestone with support from the National Museum of African American History and Culture. The new restoration features brilliantly restored Dolby Stereo and 5.1 soundtracks!
