Lockheed Martin Commercial Engine Solutions in San Antonio is cutting back 37 percent of its workforce, laying off 87 employees at all levels. Employees were informed about the changes earlier this month.
“Right now there’s a limited number of long term commercial engine opportunities and we just haven’t been able to attract the level of commercial business that we thought we would be able to at this point,” said Communications Manager Cheryl Kahn. “We have quite a few military contracts that are in the pipeline, but we won’t be hearing about who won those contracts until probably the first quarter of next year at the earliest.”
Kahn says they want to just step back and focus on every single thing that they can do to make them as affordable and competitive as they can be for their military customer.
The affected employees will remain on the payroll for a couple more months and will be given a severance package on top of that. Lockheed Martin is also helping them with outplacement services.
