Nexolon America Wednesday announced the next phase of its solar manufacturing project in San Antonio. The company that broke ground last year expects to 400 employees are expected to be hired beginning in Sept.
Nexolon America is working with the Alamo Colleges to develop a training program for new employees to build 200 megawatts of solar modules per year. Executive Vice-President Scot Arey said the company is expecting to start advertising in about a month for its first wave of hiring.
"I’m thankful that Woo Jeong Lee, the company president, has committed to hiring veterans. We’re Military City, U.S.A. and there’s a lot of veterans that I think as they transition from national security to Texas energy security are just a great fit," Arey said. "It’s good for the community, it’s good for the country, and best of all, it’s good for the veterans."
Nexolon America is the first solar manufacturing plant for parent company, Nexolon Korea. The 240,000 square-foot factory will start going up late this summer at Brooks City Base. Arey said the company also is planning to provide jobs for people living in the area and students at the Alamo Colleges.
For now, Arey said all the solar cells produced will go to CPS Energy. Once CPS is operating at its desired solar capacity, Nexolon can sell the modules globally from the San Antonio location.
