A San Antonio-based artist and singer has released a new album with the hopes that it underscores our common humanity.

Azul Barrientos’ new album is titled “Nuestro Corazon.”

" ‘Nuestro Corazon:’ the name is born from unity. Unity not only of culture but also it's a moment that calls for unity, in this particular moment in the world,” she said.

IF YOU GO What: Azul Barrientos concert Where: Jo Long Theater When: 3 p.m. Sunday Cost:  $15, $20 at the door

The singer and folklorist is the artist in residence at the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center, bringing the variety of Latin music to her album release show Sunday at the Jo Long Theater.

"Some of them are my songs, and some of them are traditional songs,” she said. “Some of them are from Argentina, some of them from Mexico; it's not one general kind of album. It's more of a journey."

Barrientos will be joined by a host of San Antonio musicians.

"We have about 12 musicians. We have so many beautiful musicians in town that are not only excellent players, but they contribute so much to each song," Barrientos said.
