Southwest School Of Art's Fiesta Arts Fair Is This Weekend

The Southwest School of Art is putting on their Fiesta Arts Fair this weekend. It all happens under the pecans and crape myrtles in between the limestone buildings and shady walkways that make up the old Ursuline campus downtown.

“This weekend we have what some people say is their very favorite, or their only, Fiesta event, and that’s Fiesta Arts Fair," said Southwest School of Art President Paula Owen.

"It’s our largest fundraiser of the year and we bring artists from across the country," Owen said. "We actually select them from their slides that they send to us for jurying. It’s a wonderful event, family-friendly event."

Given that it’s a juried event the quality of the art is high.

“Of course the artists are there so it’s enjoyable to talk to the artists, learn more about their work and their technique and where they’re from," Owen said.

There’s music, things for the kids to do, and of course, stuff to sink your teeth into.

“We have music all weekend long," Owen said. "A children’s art garden where children can participate in all kinds of art activities, as well as Fiesta food and beverages. We also have more unique and gourmet food from La Fruteria and Johnny Hernandez.”

And as far as settings for an event go, it’s hard to beat where this one’s being held. Nearly in the shadows of skyscrapers, but a green oasis.

“It is all across the historic campus, and it’s such a lovely, garden-like setting,” Owen said.

It all happens this Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Easter Sunday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
