Fredericksburg Road Arts Event Invites You Into The Artist's Studio

It’s a once-a-year arts celebration that’s spread out over several neighborhoods along Fredericksburg Road. The On and Off Fredericksburg Road Studio Tour celebrates the artists of an area of town fast becoming known for the art it generates.

“And that takes place this weekend on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m." said Bihl Haus Arts Executive Director Kellen McIntyre. "And we also have wonderful evening events. On Friday night from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. there’s the amazing, not-to-be-missed On and Off Fred autograph party."

Those autographing are the artists highlighted on the tour, and what they’re autographing is the event’s catalog. The $10 catalog serves as the admission for two to all the On and Off Fred events. The main attraction is touring more than 80 artist’s studios in a contiguous seven-neighborhood area around Fredericksburg.

"Even before you get to the artist’s door you can read about them, you can see a piece of their work in the catalog" said McIntyre.

You can identify artist’s whose work you like, and plan your visit to their studio to see where their art is created.

"Many of them have incense and they’ve got their animals, and they’ve got everything in their studios, and so you just really take in their artwork from a different perspective" said McIntyre. "And that is just priceless."

There are a number of other events associated with On and Off Fred — flash performances from neighborhood theater groups, food, music, dance and other amenities.

"So it’s a full weekend, almost two and a half days" added McIntyre.
