There is a lot of attention being paid to Igor Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring." The ballet caused a riot at its premiere back in May 1913, and 100 years later is still gathering audiences. San Antonio audiences saw the Joffrey Ballet perform it on tour with pre-recorded music back in March.
Now closer to the anniversary (May 29th, 1913), Lux Musicae is collaborating with the Northwest Vista College Repertory Dance Ensemble to present "The Rite of Spring" with live musicians. "I remember hearing about a reduced orchestra version, that was authorized by Boosey & Hawkes, of Stravinsky's score, and I said, we have to do!" states John Godoy, artistic director and founder of Lux Musicae.
Last season, Godoy presented "The Soldier's Tale" by Stravinsky at Luminaria. "It just made sense to follow up with 'The Rite' considering the 100th anniversary."
