Music from St. Mark’s presents their annual Fiesta celebration this Sunday at 4 p.m. It showcases the music of Francis Poulenc, including the "Concerto for Organ in G minor" and his grand choral symphony "Gloria."
Members of the San Antonio Symphony will augment musicians of the St. Mark’s Choir and featured soloist Joseph Causby.
Causby is the music director and conductor at St. Marks. He chuckles at the question: Is being a soloist and then conductor like juggling?
"It is like juggling, and I will actually need to take a big breath in between the concerto and Gloria. Really switching gears!" he said.
One feature of this 2013 Fiesta Concert, which is the last official event for the San Antonio party, is St. Mark's newly renovated Austin/Kegg pipe organ.
In addition to the hand-stenciled pipes on the nave and apse, the voices and timbre of the 47 ranks and 3,030 pipes have been improved to present a rich, full sound equal to the historic sanctuary.
