RACHEL MARTIN, HOST:
Good morning, I'm Rachel Martin. Habitat loss and the destruction of native plants have led to the decline of monarch butterflies in North America. Now a bit of good news for the endangered species - at a sanctuary in Pacific Grove, Calif., which had seen just one monarch in the past two years, close to 4,000 have been observed so far. To help the monarchs, conservationists recommend planting native flowers and a butterfly favorite - milkweed. Butterflies are back, baby. It's MORNING EDITION.
