San Antonio's Rackspace Sees Third CEO In Two Years

Texas Public Radio
Kevin Jones follows Taylor Rhodes and Joe Eazor as CEO.

Rackspace CEO Joe Eazor has been replaced less than two years after taking the reigns at the San Antonio technology company. Kevin Jones — formerly the chief executive at Dallas-based MV Transportation — began at the company Wednesday.

“I’m thrilled to welcome Kevin as the CEO of Rackspace,” said David Sambur, senior partner at Apollo Global Management in a release. Apollo Global Management took the company private in late 2016.

Eazor became CEO in May 2017, a few months after Rackspace CEO Taylor Rhodesannounced his departure. At the time Apollo’s Sambur — who is also chairman of the Rackspace board — said, “I’m proud and excited to welcome Joe to Rackspace.”

After coming aboard, Eazor oversaw Rackspace’s year-long buying spree, making some of the largest  acquisitions in the company's history. Between May 25, 2017 — a day after Eazor’s appointment was announced — and May 2018 they bought TriCore, Datapipe and RelationEdge.

Eazor also oversaw the continued paring down of certain segments of the business with two layoff rounds over two years. They continued to hire in other parts of the company.

Jones was formerly chief executive at MV Transportation, a private-shuttle and transportation provider based in Dallas with 20,000 employees and revenues exceeding $1 billion a year.

Sambur said Jones would be coming in during a “critical year.”

“The company is financially stronger than ever and on track in achieving its near and long-term goals,” he said.

Rackspace unveiled a new logo and branding strategy last month.
