Rackspace And TechBloc Try To Keep Former Rackers In San Antonio

Rackspace and TechBloc -- San Antonio’s technology advocacy group – are hosting an event Tuesday night for former Rackers, to connect them with local technology firms.  The event is scheduled to take place before
Techbloc’s monthly meetup. It will take place at the bar Paramour downtown.

TechBloc Executive Director David Heard says that they expect to have 15 companies and more than 50 former Rackers affected by last month’s layoffs attend.

"We're trying to play matchmaker between displaced Rackspace workers who were previously let go, recently let go, and recruiters for companies here locally that hire a lot of tech workers. The idea is to quickly and as elegantly and seamlessly as possible hook these up with new jobs in tech in San Antonio to keep them here allow us to keep building our technology," said Heard.

Rackspace let go around 198 employees a month ago in an effort to cut costs after going private under new owners Apollo Global Management.  Some of the funding for the event  comes from Bexar County, which passed funding to help assist Rackspace employees when the layoffs were announced.
