More than 170,000 service members and their families are interred there, including a dozen Congressional Medal of Honor recipients from World War II, Vietnam, and the Philippine-American War. And 27 Buffalo Soldiers are also buried there.

Biden will also posthumously grant the medal to former U.S. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy and former Michigan Gov. George Romney.

Fort Cavazos held a grand opening for its new milk depot, the first and only military human milk collection site in the country.

The redesignation of the installation is part of the military's larger effort to rename bases and other sites associated with the Confederacy. Cavazos is the Army's first Hispanic four-star general.

Fort Hood, the Army base in Central Texas, will be redesignated Fort Cavazos May 9. The new name honors the Army’s first Hispanic four-star general.
