The Texas House district 123 seat is up for grabs, and early voting began Monday. The seat, formerly belonging to current Mayoral Candidate Mike Villareal, is sought after by Democratic Candidate Diego Bernal and Republican Candidate Nunzio Previtera.
Bernal won the first special election for the seat with 47 percent of the vote, to Previtera's 21 percent. The two were the highest vote getters in a field of 6 candidates. Because no one got more than 50 percent of votes, they were forced by state law to go to a runoff.
Bernal stepped down from his seat as the district 1 council member for the city of San Antonio. Before that he was a lawyer for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund. He has a Masters degree in Social work and a Law degree from the University of Michigan.
Nunzio Previtera has been a small business owner for more than two decades in San Antonio. He has a bachelors in finance from what is now Texas A&M in Commerce. He was a delegate for the Republican National Convention three times.
The district makes up most of north central to downtown San Antonio. What do you think is the issue to deal with in this district? What concerns do you want represented in the Texas Legislature?
*Correction: This article originally stated that Diego Bernal won the first round with 41 percent. He won with 47 percent of the vote.
