The Source: Action Called For At Child Protective Services

Wikipedia Commons

Last week the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services released an analysis of their work by an outside group calling for immediate changes at the state's Child Protective Services Division.

This comes only a month after the Texas Sunset Commission released another hefty report highlighting a nasty culture, overworked caseworkers, and the state's most vulnerable kids caught in between.

Staff turnover cost the state over $72 million last year, as 1,300+ caseworkers left the organization. Only 26% of caseworker time is spent with kids. According to staff surveys, the pay is too low and workloads are too large to manage, despite state attempts to change both.

The agency goes before the Sunset Commission Tuesday and Wednesday to present plans and hear comments.
