In the first segment:
As immigration reform languishes in the House of Representatives, we take a look at immigrant entrepreneurs in America, a group that has historically acted as a catalyst for growth in the U.S. economy.
According to the U.S. Small Business Administration more immigrants own businesses in the U.S. than non-immigrant, they start with more startup capital, and are more likely to hire employees. Are we making it easy enough for those dollars to flow into the country through startups and new business from those hoping to join our economy? Language in the Senate-passed immigration reform bill calls for visa reform that would better allow these business owners to enter the country, but does it go far enough?
In the second segment:
The music of Doug Sahm is remembered and celebrated in a new documentary still in the works called "Doug Sahm: All About the Groove." The San Antonio native helped define the sound of the Tex-Mex genre, which drew from roots rock, conjunto, country and elsewhere. We talk with Texas writer Joe Nick Potaski is showing a sizzle real of the proposed documentary this Sunday at the South Texas Pop Culture Center which will feature a panel discussion of the legendary Texas musician.
Joining us are his son, Shawn, who now plays in one band his father co-founded, The Texas Tornados. Also on the show is another Texas icon, Augie Meyers, who co-founded the Sir Douglas Quintet with Sahm.
