The Source: Texas Cyber Security and The Future of the Alamo

cc

In the first segment:

South Carolina is still dealing with the ramifications of a month-long cyber incursion at their Department of Revenue last fall that saw millions of of citizens' banking information, social security numbers and other vital information stolen, costing the state $20 million so far.

Texas also has security holes.  In a report to the state Department of Information Resources, the state's Cybersecurity, Education, and Economic Development Council presented a number of recommendations to improve the state's cyber infrastructure.

We talk with cyber security council member Gregory White, director of the Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security (CIAS) at UTSA.  We also speak to Larry Thompson from CIAS who is hired to help states implement plans to keep systems secure.

The idea of Alamo Plaza being redesigned has been debated perennially for decades. Critics attack the commercial nature of the Alamo's neighbors and the lack of larger grounds, among a myriad of other issues.

With last year's ouster of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas as primary caretakers of the Alamo, what does the future of the site look like?

General Land Office Commissioner Jerry Patterson joins us, along with Nancy Avellar from the San Antonio Conservation Society, and Ken Pfiefer from the Sons of the Texas Republic, Alamo chapter, to discuss and debate the future of the Alamo.

*The Source airs at 3 p.m. on KSTX 89.1 FM - audio from this show will be posted by 5:30 p.m.
