Texas Matters: Protecting The Post Office, Green Party Blues And 'We Build The Wall'

Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales says he is alarmed by reports of mail sorting machines being removed from the San Antonio postal facilities, the hiding of a backlog of mail and other actions to slow mail delivery during this election cycle when mail in voting will be critical.

Gonzales sent a letter to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton to get an opinion on if he has the authority to protect the postal service and charge national officials.

Green Party

David Collins had hoped he would be on the Texas ballot during the general election as the Green Party candidate for U.S. Senate. But he ran into a new Texas law passed in the last legislative session that requires all candidates to qualify for the ballot with either signatures or a filing fee.

Democrats sued to keep Collins and other Green Party candidates off the ballot. With Texas seeing a tight race for president and a senate seat that could flip the U.S. Senate, there is speculation that a third party candidate on the ballot could make the difference. But Collins says that’s not the case.

We Build The Wall

Steve Bannon, a former senior white house official to President Trump, was among four suspects arrested Thursday and indicted in connection with an online fundraising campaign that allegedly defrauded donors of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Bannon told the public he was volunteering to We Build The Wall and that 100% of the money raised would go toward building a border wall. But instead he is accused of taking hunders of thousands of dollars from the fund.

The ACLU of Texas has been looking into “We Build The Wall.” Shaw Drake is with the ACLU of Texas.
