Marathon In Downtown San Antonio Will Feature Live Music

The Rock-n-Roll Marathon is expected to attract 18,000 runners and even more spectators to downtown San Antonio this weekend, Dec. 7 and 8, according to marathon officials.

There are a variety of musical performances free and open to the public.

The 5 and 10K run kickoff at 7:15 a.m. on Saturday. The bands performing Saturday include DJ Hans, Sympathetic Drive, The Servants of Love, The AM Project, Flowbotics and Hoop Troop.

The marathon, half-marathon and half-marathon two person relay begin at 7:30 a.m. Sunday. 

Country singer Mike Ryan of San Antonio is the headliner at the marathon finish line stage on East Cesar Chavez Boulevard on Sunday. 

The rest of Sunday’s lineup includes Raining Mary, The AM Project, Hodge Podge Blues Ban, Jonathan Garcia Band, SA Brass Tacs, The Servants of Love, Momo & Pompa Mariachis, Mariachi Mile, IAMA-Folklorico Dancers, DJ Hans, Mojo-Rimba, Nef Hernandez, The Reen, Bad Weather, Payton White and Conjunto Puro Corazon.

The marathon will be followed by an awards ceremony and the Ryan concert at 10:45 a.m. at Hemisfair Park.

A two-day Health and Fitness Expo at Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in Halls 4A and 4B will run from noon to 7 p.m. on Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Major road closures can be expected downtown and in surrounding neighborhoods on Saturday and Sunday from 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Marathon organizers said the 18,000 runners expected represent all  50 states and 27 countries, regions, and territories.  More than 58% are women.

According to a marathon news release, 12-year old Teagan Rucker of San Antonio is the youngest female participant.  Eric Elizondo, 18, of Boerne is the youngest male participant. Eighty-five year old Fahel Moon of San Antonio is the oldest male participant and 83-year old Perez Mercedes of Arlington, Texas is the oldest female participant.

Des Linden, the Top American finisher at the 2019 New York City Marathon, 2018 Boston Marathon winner and 2017 Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Champion will pace the 5K race and sign autographs inside the Brooks Store at the Health and Fitness Expo on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
