San Antonio, Bexar County Launch Community Wide Mexico Earthquake Relief Effort

The City of San Antonio and Bexar County are organizing a community wide Mexico earthquake relief effort.

Following Hurricane Harvey “our city moved quickly to provide a compassionate and humanitarian response for our fellow Texans and now we must also provide a compassionate and humanitarian response to our neighbors to the south,” said Mayor Ron Nirenberg. “Well, Mexico is our neighbor. They’re our family. And in many respects, other than a border on a map, there’s no difference between us.”

Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff is working with George Hernandez, who’s President of the Bexar County Hospital District. “We have commitments for $200,000 worth of medical supplies in kind, but I don’t think they’re in a position to handle that right now,” said Wolff. “So when and if they need it, we’re going to supply that. And if they got any other specific uses or needs in that area, we’ll work with them to get it done.”

Relief efforts are being channeled through the Mexican Consulate in San Antonio, which is also providing information through its Facebook and Twitter accounts.  Donations can also be made to the Mexican Red Cross.
