Dr. Anil Mangla is leaving Metro Health in September.

Dr. Anil Mangla is leaving his position as Assistant Director for Communicable Diseases at San Antonio’s Metro Health Department.

Dr. Mangla has most recently been the agency’s primary spokesman for protecting against the Zika virus.

Dr. Mangla told Texas Public Radio he’s accepted a professorship at the University of Incarnate Word’s new school of medicine where he’ll work in the area of infectious disease.  His last day at Metro Health is September 24.

Dr. Mangla came to Metro Health five years ago after serving as the state epidemiologist in Georgia.
