VITA Program Kicks Off Today

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) kicked off today in a joint event with the City Council, United Way of San Antonio, Catholic Charities of San Antonio, and the San Antonio VITA coalition as part of National Earned Income Tax Credit Awareness Day.

VITA provides low and moderate income earners with free assistance from trained volunteers with filing their tax returns and provides refunds through electronic deposit.

"Today marks the beginning of yet another productive year for the VITA team to create a positive impact in San Antonio that will last for generations," said Councilwoman Shirley Gonzalez.

The VITA program runs until April 18, with 19 locations throughout San Antonio. Last year, the program assisted with more than 34,000 income tax returns and refunded more than $60 million to individuals in the San Antonio area, saving taxpayers around $8.5 million in fees. For more information or to find a nearby VITA site and its business hours, taxpayers can visit vitasa.org.
