Thanks to an anonymous donation, a bench honoring homeless and unaccompanied veterans was unveiled Wednesday morning at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
The bench also recognizes the late Paul D. Braden, an Air Force colonel who advocated for homeless veterans until his death in 2016.
Karen Rolirad serves as the Executive Director of Bexar County’s Military and Veterans Center. She said this bench is the first of its kind and commemorates those who have no next of kin, are homeless or have outlived their families.
The center also aims to ensure qualifying homeless and unaccompanied veterans receive a dignified burial with attendance from community members.
