Early voting in the Republican and Democratic primaries begins today and candidates for many races are lined up outside polling locations to garner undecided voters.

On the Republican side for Texas House District 121, Speaker Joe Straus spent some time this morning at the Lions Field early voting site. Straus has held the district seat since 2005, and is seeking re-election with two opposing candidates:  Jeff Judson and Sheila Bean. Straus says he believes voters should take his focus on budget transparency into consideration when casting a vote.

“I passed the telecommunications infrastructure fund. It was $200 million a year for a program that no longer existed.  Nobody else paid attention it but I did and got it done,” Straus said. “Lyle Larson carried the bill, with assistance from the speaker, that sporting goods tax that was meant for parks is now spent on parks.”

Public Policy Foundation, was also at Lion’s field today talking to voters. He says if elected, among his priorities would be adjusting financing for transportation and schools.

“What we do now is we assume if the school is failing it's because it doesn’t have enough money so we give it more and more and more money,” Judson said. “There may be something else that’s causing that school to fail and giving it more money may actually make it worse.”

Also running is Sheila Bean who is a former public school teacher.  There are no democrats running for the House District 121 seat which contains the cities of Olmos Park, Alamo Heights, Terrell Hills and parts of San Antonio through neighborhoods just south of T.P.C. Parkway and State Highway 281.
