Pre-K 4 SA Board Adjusts Job Descriptions For Key Positions

Ryan Loyd

As a subcommittee of the Pre-K 4 SA board prepares to receive recommendations from city staffers on how kids will enroll for the program, the board has been busy adjusting the job descriptions of some key positions.

Deputy City Manager Peter Zanoni said the board wanted to include as many qualified candidates as possible, without ruling anyone out because they didn’t have the right credentials.

In this case the board decided it would prefer the people who lead the first two model education centers – one on the north side, the other on the south – to have principal experience.

"So they direct the center, they have to manage staff, they have to manage the curriculum, they have to manage the operations so that eventually the 500 students that are there will be in a high performing environment," Zanoni said.

However, Zanoni said that some of the educators on the board advised to not set such a definite requirement.

On Friday the city will present a subcommittee of the board recommendations on the enrollment process, which Zanoni outlined as a four-step process, to begin in May.

The full board will receive the recommendations next week.
