DOCK SPACE GALLERY AND LONE STAR GALLERY PRESENT:
wORldScapes & I´ceScapes — Recent Works by Gudjon Bjarnason
April 11-30, 2026
San Antonio, TX — Dock Space/Lone Star Galleries are pleased to announce an upcoming exhibition by internationally acclaimed Icelandic artist and architect Guðjón Bjarnason (Gudjon). Opening April 11, 2026, the show will feature a comprehensive selection of his multidisciplinary work, including large-scale hand-painted prints, photographic series, sculptural installations, video, films, and four artist books.
Gudjon’s exhibition will unfold across both gallery spaces, encompassing approximately 124 linear feet. The presentation will include works from his recent wORldScapes series, alongside works from the ongoing I’ceScapes series. Additional photographic works will complement these series, creating a layered visual dialogue between landscape and abstraction, culture and perception.
Expanding beyond two-dimensional media, the exhibition will feature examples of Gudjon’s signature “exploded” steel sculptures, installed both indoors and outdoors. These works reflect the artist’s investigation into structure, fragmentation, language, art history, and spatial dynamics—bridging his dual practice as both architect and visual artist.
A selection of Gudjon’s newly assembled artist books—spanning painting, sculpture, photography, and architecture—will be on display, alongside multiple film works. The latter include two documentaries, one set in Iceland (52 minutes) and other in the US (8 minutes), as well as an art video and a 6-minute video related to Gudjon’s appearance in the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2021.
Both exhibits are curated in collaboration with New York-based international art critic Richard Vine, who wrote introductions for two of the books.
Gudjon, now based in Reykjavík and formerly in Geneva, Switzerland, and Pondicherry, India, is the founder of GB-AAA (Gudjon Bjarnason Art & Architecture Ateliers). He holds degrees from the Rhode Island School of Design and the School of Visual Arts and Columbia University, both in New York. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at Blue Star Contemporary in San Antonio, the HP Garcia Gallery in New York, the National Academy of Arts in New Delhi, and institutions in Europe and Asia.
Known for his dynamic steel sculptures, multi-layered monochromatic paintings, and digitally altered photographic works, Bjarnason explores the intersections of architecture, ecology, social dynamics, and human perception. His work has been widely published in leading art and design journals and featured in international media.
This exhibition marks Bjarnason’s return to San Antonio following his participation in the Iceland–Texas cultural exchange program. This cultural exchange exhibition is co-sponsored by the Lone Star Art Alliance. In continuation of this collaboration, a reciprocal exhibition featuring Texas-based artists is scheduled to open in Iceland in June 2027.
Gudjon and Richard will be present in San Antonio for an extended period around the opening to oversee installation and conduct public discussions of the work.
