Join the San Antonio Public Library and learn more about our city’s colorful past. Melissa Gohlke, Assistant Archivist at UTSA, and a scholar of San Antonio’s LGBTQIA+ history. Come peer behind the scenes at UTSA Special Collections and discover why and how the repository seeks out and acquires queer materials. Meet some of the generous donors who have supported this mission for many years and have helped preserve San Antonio’s important LGBTQ history. From rainbow pins to rhinestone high heels, surprising items can be found among the collections and serve as a portal into the lives of the individuals who held on to these ephemeral objects. Jumpstart Your Native Plant GardenJoin Haeley Giambalvo of NativeBackyards.com to learn how to get started growing more Texas native plants in your yard this fall! Haeley will show you how to find the best plants for your area that are hardy, drought-tolerant, and pollinator magnets. She will provide simple tips to transform a garden bed with native plants. Haeley is the VP of Communications for the Native Plant Society of Texas and the author of Native Plant Gardening for Beginners, which will be available for purchase for $15, tax included. Forms of payment accepted are cash and card.

In an era of open and often contentious discussion about Transgender lives and issues, an assessment of the history of gender divergence and diversity has value as we interpret current notions of Trans identities and struggles within contemporary society. This presentation explores that history through archival images and materials that convey the rich contributions transgender individuals have made to the cultural tapestry of the Alamo city. The Sierra Club (Alamo Group) meets on the 3rd Tuesday of most months (excludes November and December) to discuss timely topics pertaining to the health of the natural and human environment. Always free and open to the public.
Meetings generally consist of a meet-and-greet followed by a presentation by an invited speaker, with discussion. Always informative and enjoyable!
